Leah Samuelson, a teacher and lecturer in Community Art and Drawing at Wheaton College, Illionois, was our recent Wayfarer Fellow, spending three months at St John's College during the Michaelmas term of 2018. The brainchild of the Revd Dr David Wilkinson, Principal of St John’s, this partnership arises from friendship and discussions over several years imagining how Wayfarer and St John’s could connect both creatively and spiritually.
Wayfarer fellows choose an area of research or a project which explores the relationship of spirituality to arts, media and culture. Each fellow will then spend a week with students from St John’s College in a residential group at Freswick Castle the following summer.

Leah is a Community Artist in the field of Arts for Social Change. She has been teaching mural painting, mosaics, and drawing at Wheaton College in Illinois, U.S.A. for the last nine years. Her work involves exploring relational growth between participants of group projects, for example, learning how to merge people's diverse ideas of space and design when making public murals. Art for Social Change also pursues civil evolution through often unconventional works of art that address social realities.

Leah regularly collaborates with psychologists, theologians, art therapists, and other artists, and she is excited to begin new work with natural scientists and environmentalists in community-built eco projects.
