The Wayfarer Trust has been involved in a long-running situation over a proposed wind farm very near the castle. The Highland Council turned down this application in 2006, but recently Murray Watts and representatives of the Trust have had to join with the Highland Council and Caithness Wind Information Forum (CWIF) in defending the original planning decision. NPower Renewables have been appealing against it and are trying to overturn the planning decision in their own favour.
